I temporarily retired my 2 ESP32 "mega" boards (i call them mega because im doing quite a lot with them) back in april or may due to serious stability problems.
This required me to design a new esp8266 board and I was using those up until now. I recently compiled the current release (sep 23 2018?) and I have to say things are much better!
I still get periodic crashes when setting things up in the device settings, which is annoying, but overall it's much better. I custom compile them with only about 7-8 plugins and I have to add the esp32_servo library
but other than that, all is well. First one is up about 14 hours so far with no hiccups. I couldn't say that before. I didn't look through all the changes, but whatever you did - good work.
And thank you!

Good to hear
I am looking into the stability issues of ESP32 too, since they seem to be related to the stack size, which also seems to cause issues at the ESP8266 versions (Watchdog resets)
In the end ESP32 will become as important as ESP8266 is now, since it is a very nice and powerful platform.

Re: ESP32 stability
I actually think ESP32 will be more important than the ESP8266.
Better security, dual core and more boards coming out. I haven't seen many new ESP8266 boards lately. There are a few, but not many. Also some ESP8266 boards have disappeared from the market. The cost difference between the two has now reduced.

Re: ESP32 stability
It's of course exactly as you pointed out, the future belongs to the ESP32. But from ESP Easy view we will give ESP82XX love for as long as possible
So we consider the two microcontrollers our "children" and thus they are equally important
