Sonoff S20 v1.3 Header

The latest version 1.3 of the Sonoff S20 US does not have any way to remove the PCB for soldering a header to be able flash the device with ESP Easy. See pic at this link: https://imgur.com/a/Inn1A
Any ideas on how to put in a header without soldering?

Put the header as high as possible and solder from the top side. Or remove the plastic of the header and use only the pins.

On the EU version you can put a flatheaded screwdriver where the PCB is 'fixed' in the housing and turn the screwdriver. The PCB comes out, and is easily put back by applying a bit of force

Thanks mrwee. Can you post a picture of what you mean by "..where the PCB is fixed int he housing and turn the screwdriver"?

If you look at the PCB you can see round white plastic going through the PCB. if you take the screwdriver beneath the PCB, right next to the white plastic, and try to force the PCB up, then it should come out.

I tried that but it does not come off. Do you think the Ground pin of the plug is actually soldered on to the PCB. See here:

Thanks grovkillen. How would you use the pogo pins?

I'm thinking that these Hammer Headers might work if I push the hammer ends in with some force: https://shop.pimoroni.com/products/gpio-hammer-header
Any opinions ?

It does indeed look like it's soldered.

You dont need pogo pins. Take the male header and solder your wires to the short side (the side that normally passes through the pcb.)

Push the other side of the pins into the empty pcb holes.

Press lightly on the side of the male header pins while you do the upload, the pressure will make more than adequete contacts...

When you are done remove the header pins.

Thanks. I have actually taken the easy route on my S20 and have avoided headers, soldering etc. to get custom firmware flashed on it. I used the SonOTA script, which allows the flashing of Tasmota (sorry..not ESPEasy) firmware over the air on an out-of-the-box stock S20. I put together a guide for HomeSeer users on the integration steps where I describe how the OTA flashing happens. You can find the guide here: https://forums.homeseer.com/showpost.ph ... stcount=60
