Reading pulses and determine turn direction

#1 Post by renski » 09 Jul 2016, 10:36

I have searched the whole forum but i could not find the answer to my question.

In order to read out a KwH meter (ferraris) i can use the ESPeasy pulse counter with the TCR5000. This works fine but only for 1 turning direction.
Since i have placed some solar panels the KwH meter can also run back so i need to determine the direction and then count the pulses.

Is there a way to connect 2 TCR5000 sensors to the ESPeasy and determine the turning direction?

Hi renski

Is it possible to have a input that is high if the meter turn one direction and low if it turns the other direction?

I don`t think that it is easy to make a input high for a turning direction.
I was thinking to use 2 sensors to detect the reflecting flank of the disk that turns.
If both sensors are active, and the first sensor that go`s to inactive will determine the turning direction.

Hi renski

To determine turning direction you can use two optical sensors next to each other - lest say A and B from left to right.
The direction will then be determined by the sensor that is interrupted 1st.
If A is switched 1st, then the wheel is turning from left to right. -->
If B is switched 1st, the the wheel is turning from right to left <--
