Unable to flash a Sonoff S26R2 with ESP.Easy.Flasher

#1 Post by Gilles » 26 Aug 2023, 08:26

I have even soldier the wires to be sure. Nothing happens. (I run Windows seven) .I have tried with DOUT and without. The bin is : ESP_Easy_mega_20230623_normal_ESP8266_1M.bin. I push the flash button before connecting the Sonoff. The ESP.Easy.Flasher screen stays frozen.
After each try I have to close it and to kill the window task to free the COM port.

So, I wanted to use the Arduino IDE instead (I think that I used it some years ago to flash a sonoff S20), based on the tuto https://www.letscontrolit.com/wiki/inde ... are_Upload
but the files names don't match . Is there somewhere another tuto that I could use ?
Any advice ?

In the most recent build (few days ago) we even have removed this flasher.
The reasons for removing it:
- Not all USB to serial chips were detected
- It only supports ESP8266, while we now also support ESP32(classic) and ESP32-S2/-S3/-C3 (others coming)

You better should use the Espressif download tool (included in the zip) or the web flasher: https://td-er.nl/ESPEasy/

And keep in mind you may need to press the button on the device (and keep it pressed) when powering it on.
This will put the device in flash mode.

Also please don't use the wiki as the main source for information on ESPEasy.
Please bookmark the ReadTheDocs page: https://espeasy.readthedocs.io/en/latest/
The Wiki is still only because not all info has been migrated.
But the RTD docs are way more up-to-date as we (especially Ton) tend to update it on every new feature/plugin.

Edit:
See also the (excellent) overview on how to flash the Sonoff S26r2 on the Blackadder site of the Tasmota people: https://templates.blakadder.com/sonoff_S26R2.html

What TD-er said :) (coinciding posts, again )

There is another alternative available for building and flashing your Custom ESP units using the VSCode IDE with PlatformIO plugin, as documented in the ESPEasy Read The Docs Developer guide, mostly aimed at who needs to build a Custom ESPEasy, or wants to develop on the ESPEasy code for improvements and extensions (plugins)

Using Arduino IDE for development of ESPEasy is deprecated for a long time already, as the code-base has become rather large and complex, and has become nearly unmanageable using Arduino IDE, and also we're actively using many features of PlatformIO to build the code. Building with Arduino IDE is still possible, but only if you have a lot of experience in using that IDE, and know how to solve the many intricacies involved. NB: This has been the case for over 5 years now, so, nothing new on this subject ;).

Thanks guys,
It is a real pleasure to see that this forum is alive and reactive after such many years.
I will stop using arduino ide and I will give a try to the TD-er advice.
Thanks again
