SI1151 Sensor Light/UV

#1 Post by pickup7 » 10 Aug 2023, 12:46

Dear team,
is there any chance to include the SI1151 light/UV sensor with I2C address 53 (52 scnd) into the library release plan?
https://www.silabs.com/documents/public ... asheet.pdf
It's a "brother" of SI1145 which is already included in collection B. And it seems that it is more commonly available than the SI1145.
Thank you for your feed back and Kind regards

So it is only adding an extra I2C address?

Hm, the SI1145 and SI1151 don't have much software compatibility, though they have somewhat similar features (the SI115x series doesn't measure UV levels).
It's quite a bit more than just adding a few I2C addresses, where the SI1145/6/7 series use 0x60 and the SI115x series use 0x53/0x52.
Most likely it's exactly for this reason (being technically incompatible) they have different addresses :?

I'm all for re-using code, but this would end up being 2 separate plugins being squashed into a single plugin.
I'll put it on the list of Plugins to implement.

I'm not sure about availability either, as it's much easier to find (info on) the SI1145 sensor, even my friends at Ali don't offer these SI1151's :o

If you need an UV sensor, we also support the VEML6070 in P084 in Collection B, VEML6075 in P114 in Collection D and the LTR-390 in P133 in Collection E/Climate, and some of the other Light sensors also have support for UV measurement.

Thank you Ath,
I lay the SI1151 from Berrybase (they offered it labelled as SI1145 !) aside and following your recommendation I purchased a LTR-390.

That's not nice of them, as these sensors are not technically compatible at all

You might want to read this conversation about the measurements when using that sensor with different resolutions. Best would be to use the highest possible resolution setting, and as much gain as is needed to get a reasonable output without going out of range.
