Introduction to Bert

#1 Post by BertB » 25 Aug 2015, 22:05

Hi,
I was born in a time computers still occupied large halls and miniaturisation was yet to come, but music was rocking. Yes, in the late fifties.
Bert is my name and I love technology. Born and raised in Utrecht, I earned my degree in elektronics with a specialisation in telecommunications.
During my study I was asked to work in a project that involved special computer interfacing (PDP11). So there is my connection with the digital world.
I have a long working history in the Telecom industry, where I managed projects for a company specialised in voice response, tts and language recognition. As of 2006, I work as a medical engineer in a small hospital. I am married with three children. All kids are adult now and live on their own as students.

I have designed a large number of printed circuits and worked with several micro computers (6500, 68000, Z80), but Atmel is what I like most. First wih assembler (tedious, but fun), later with some form of Basic (Bascom), until I discovered Arduino and open source and Nodo-domotica and Domoticz.
And then there was this tiny miracle called ESP8266. It was love at first sight.
Fortunately I found people with the capability to make things work in a sensible way. Despite all the efford, I am not a programmer. I do read code and I can find out how things operate.

Okay, that was it. I am looking forward to expand the possiblities of IoT in cooperation with all of you.

Yours truly,
Bert
