Generic HTTP subscribe

Recently I have discovered this great firmware.
I have a internet server in php.
The publish is working great, but are there some documentation about the HTTP subscribe option?
I don't receive any request in my server for subscribe.
My goal is to send from internet to ESP simple comands to change the state of GPIOs using HTTP, without the MQTT.
