It works either way. I can reverse the 2 connections and it will go the opposite.
It is also working just as well using just the inverter chip with no resistors or capacitors.

Re: Rotary encoder

Does it always count double, even at (very) low speed? Are the capacitors (if you used any) and resistors on both A/B lines the same? It is counting double quite consistently. Not using capacitors at all. Does not work at all with them. Output of encoder goes thru a resistor and then thru the inver...

Re: Rotary encoder

I've tried a couple different circuit setups using resistors and capacitors and it either doesn't help or makes it worse.
So maybe you can clean up the signal by using a transistor per A/B signal.
What would that look like from a schematic point of view?

I'm in the process of trying to set up a rotary encoder in a project. The basic outline is to be able to set a value with the encoder and put that value in a dummy device for further processing. i mean where i should connect input and output considering GPIO of nodemcu and 16 gpio of MCP23017 ? I imagine you can hook it up in whatever way is easiest. Use it for relays and switches and you could free up some GPIO in the nodemcu for other uses. You only need 2 GPIO for the I2C bus. You can a...

I'm not sure the MCP23017 supports PWM. That's a question for the devs. Some of the native ESP GPIO support PWM. Might be easier to use those.

Or a dedicated PWM output chip module.

Not sure you need the ADS1115 here as I am still a bit confused as to what the ESP is actually doing here. You say you want to send these analog values TO the ESP. I assume they then go out to a dimmer of some sort?

Maybe a picture or a diagram or schematic would be helpful.

Maybe not the most elegant solution but you could emulate the button presses with pulses from a relay or maybe transistors connected via a store bought relay board or a homemade board piggy backed onto your thermostat board. Just need 4 gpio outputs connected to the tact switches on your board.
