I would simply hook it up via a breadboard and see what comes out.
I am running several S8's, both onder Tasmota and ESPEasy. Nothing special needed, the sensor spits out values almost immediately.

For support of the BME680 you need a TESTING B build that has test_B and _ETH in the name, not sure what you have installed last, but if you downloaded from a github actions build, as guided before, that same zip file should also have that test_B_ESP32_4M316k_ETH build included. You can use any "1M" build. But for later updates you either need to connect the wires again, or now pick a build labelled "minimal OTA". If you flash a larger one, it will overwrite the file system when trying to update via WiFi. OK, so if I understand this correctly: Once I ha...

C11 does indeed look like a capacitor, but I find it surprisingly small for 10 uF/25V It is hard to see on the board, which side is + and which is -, so you cannot simply replace it by an elco for added capacitance. You can also add an elco to some other spot on the board, between 3V3 and GND. I su...

An empty capacitor acts as a short circuit when charging, starting at 0V. So increasing the capacity will also draw a high current for a longer time. If you have a multimeter capable of measuring capacity, you can check them first. Just make sure the caps are discharged before handling them.
